A major goal of the center will be to boost the commercialization potential of newly developed technologies at the university.  Issues related to the scalability and manufacturability of technologies will be investigated and potential solutions to existing constraints developed.  Even though pre-prototype research may be conducted in the CIbM lab, full-scale prototype systems will be established in outside facilities.

The center will focus on new technologies and apply its innovation methodologies to help researchers overcome current manufacturing constraints and develop large scale manufacturing systems.  Three major areas we have identified in this effort are the (1) manufacturing process, (2) material flow, and (3) information flow.  While the manufacturing process is the most critical part of the manufacturing system, the accompanying flows of material and information need to be identified and addressed in order to develop a scalable and efficient manufacturing system.
