Who is eligible for the Catalyst Program?

All undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty are invited to join our program!

 

How do I get involved in the Catalyst Program?

The best way to get involved in the Catalyst Program is to come by or contact us and discuss your idea. If you are interested in getting involved but don't have an idea, we recommend you take one of the entrepreneurial courses at Virginia Tech or check out our current projects to see if any teams are in need of members. Click on the "Get involved" tab for more information.

 

Where is the Catalyst Program facility?

We have two main facilites; The Manufacturing Lab (197 Durham Hall) and the Digital Technology Lab (ICTAS CRC). Click on the "Facilities and Partners" tab for more information.

 

Can the Catalyst Program help me to patent my idea?

Yes, utilizing our experienced faculty and staff and through our network of local partners we have the resources necessary to help you obtain various forms of intellectual property protection such as patents, trademarks, and copyrights.

 

If I use university resources to develop my product will Virginia Tech own my intellectual property?

The Catalyst Program and Innovation Competition are subject to Virginia Tech's intellectual property policy. Please see the following link for more details: Policy 13000.

 

What if I don't have any experience with design or manufacturing?

Our staff as well as members of Catalyst Program teams can help you to use or train you on any machine in our facilities and a variety of CAD/CAM/CAE software. We can also help you to develop your design internally, by conferencing with our network of experts, or through our deep dive activity.
